Christine Schirr of OtterCorrect says CoLab Orlando was the perfect temporary solution Christine Schirr, founder and lead editor at OtterCorrect, a Virginia-based writing and editing business, found herself in sunny Orlando for a few weeks in need of a place to perch her laptop. Schirr’s company provides writing and editing services for a variety of clients, giving her the flexibility to work anywhere. After she landed in Orlando, she was working in the solitude of a friend’s home. But that environment lacked the social interaction and constant caffeine drip that a creative person needs for peak performance. That’s when she decided to set up temporary shop at CoLab Orlando, a coworking community in the heart of Orlando. She talked to us recently about her experience here: How did you hear about CoLab? I heard about it because I knew that there were similar resources available in other cities, so I …

Orlando’s coworking space perfect for up-and-coming photographer’s business Norman Yu, 35, enjoys helping people. It’s why he became a nurse. It’s also why he became a photographer. Yu is the owner of Norman Yu Photography, a boutique photography company that specializes in weddings. Though he still has his nursing license and works as a nurse once a week, Yu fuels his passion for art and capturing special moments by taking photos. How long have you been here at CoLab? About a year and eight months. How did you hear about CoLab? It’s kind of funny. When I had just moved back from Los Angeles, I was meeting clientele at the local Starbucks and Panera. I visited a friend’s job, who’s an attorney, and I saw at his workplace that there was a central conference room and five or six attorneys working out of this office. They all worked for themselves …

CoLab Orlando: Why You Need a Coworking Space

Posted on by colabadmin in orlando coworking news, Orlando News | No Comments

Orlando’s premiere coworking space appeals to entrepreneurs One of the greatest challenges for entrepreneurs can be finding places to network. But what if you worked right next to someone that could easily get that troublesome job done that you’ve been slaving over for weeks? This is the beauty of working in a co-working space. At CoLab Orlando we see a little of different people filling up the spaces – from software developers to public relations firms. The good part about everyone being a door away from each other is when clients start asking (or maybe demanding) certain projects. Take the PR firm, for example, that is growing exponentially. Well, the office of two that was once perfectly capable of handling client’s needs now desperately needs a software developer’s help – and they needed it yesterday. Luckily, the new acquaintance they’ve made of their next-door office mate happens to be a …

Blending Work and Personal Life at CoLab Orlando

Posted on by colabadmin in orlando coworking news, Orlando News, Orlando Virtual Office | No Comments

Coworking helps with focus and personal friendships For lots of coworkers, working in a coworking space is a good way to separate your work and personal life. But recent trends suggest the opposite among millenials and the digital workforce – a blending of work and personal life. This article on GigaOm explores the subject, noting that even Zappos employees will soon work on a “metropolitan” campus that encourages mixing personal aspects with their work life. CoLab’s residents use the coworking space both ways. There are many members who use the space to get out of the house, be more productive, and get some needed feedback from peers. Then they head home – able to enjoy their home life better because they don’t work there. To some residents, though, CoLab is their “second place.” They come for the coffee, watch Netflix over lunch and plan group outings. After work is done, …
